On day one of your exciting all exclusive safari, you will be collected at the airport and taken to your accommodation. The next day, a further airport transfer will be arranged to take you on a domestic scheduled charter flight to Kidepo Valley National Park far in the north-east of Uganda.

The aircraft in use for such flights, such as the Cessna Caravan or Dehavilland Twin Otter, have been specifically built for STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) conditions often found in up-country national parks and rural Africa in general. Day 3: Kidepo Valley National Park
Further opportunities for game drives and bush walks in one of the most spectacular national parks, famous for its remote "hard to get to" location and wide open landscapes, dotted with rocky ridges and rolling grasslands and lions roaming the plains against the backdrop of distant hills.

The park shares its name with the famous Kidepo and Narus valleys that stretch across the border into South Sudan and contain one of the most exciting diversity of wildlife of any national park in Uganda, including the greater and lesser kudu and eland. Carnivores include the lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena and black-backed and side-striped jackals. Other large species regularly seen wandering into the park sometimes from as far as South Sudan are elephant, Burchell's zebra, Rothschild's giraffe, Cape buffalo and Jackson's hartebeest.

The park also offers an extensive range of tropical birds to discover and with a total of 475 species identified to date, including 56 species of birds of prey, Kidepo Valley National Park is second only to Queen Elizabeth National Park when it comes to the amazing variety of bird life to locate. Driving north to the hot springs also gives you the opportunity to see ostriches.

Day 4: Kidepo Valley National Park
Today, you have the rare (optional) opportunity for the exploration of the unique cultural heritage of the Ik People, complemented by some of the most stunning mountain scenery in Uganda.

The easy option - which is included in this safari itinerary - is for those who are not ready for a climb up the mountains. Instead, you will visit Nakipelemoru - the hill of Nakipel - near Kotido, which qualifies as the largest "Manyatta" in East Africa. A Manyatta is basically a Karamajong village that has grown out of proportion into something that is more akin to a "city"; built entirely from local materials and in the traditional Karamajong style. A walk through the labyrinths of this very large village gives you the chance to experience Karamajong and their way of life up close. There is also a short mountain hike with astonishing views of the entire "Manyatta" and surrounding savannah. To complete the fun and a must see in terms of cultural heritage, are the Karamajong cultural dances as well as "rock sliding" competitions usually held on Sundays.

Option 1 at extra cost factor - Visit to the Ik Mountain People: After an early breakfast at the lodge you depart on a once in a lifetime visit to the remote mountain region of the IK People of Karamoja. The Ik People live high in the Morungole Mountains on the border with Kenya and number only between 10,000 to 11,000 in total. They are hunters and gatherers which originally migrated from Ethiopia.

A day with the Ik People on Morungole Mountain offers you rare cultural insights, complemented by some of the most stunning scenery Uganda has to offer and is simply an amazing adventure. Getting to the Ik villages is however no easy feat and requires an all-day venture up and down the steep mountains with guides who speaks the Ik language. You have to be physically fit to climb the mountains - the peak of Mount Murongole is 2,749 meters above sea level - on a trail that is 8 kilometres long (16 kilometre round trip) and can at times be quite a tough climb.

At the end of a long day, look forward to another dinner setting to international cuisine and overnight stay at the Apoka Safari Lodge.

Price for this option: US $ 150 per person with a minimum of 2. The safari vehicle for this trip would have to be sent from Kampala and cost factor for the vehicle alone is an additional US $ 1,360 for the tour to the Ik Mountain People. Please advise on this option at the time of booking.
